ILLINOIS (25News Now) – After President Donald Trump implemented a 25% tariff on Mexican goods and a 10% tariff on Canadian goods, experts said consumers and farmers can expect to feel the impact.

The Head of Petroleum Analysis (USA) for GasBuddy, Patrick De Haan, said it’s normal for prices to increase this season by around 20–60 cents per gallon, as refineries switch to producing summer gasoline blends and demand goes up.

However, he said the tariffs could add a five to 15 cent per gallon increase on top of that.

“Gas prices will likely continue to go up over the next four to eight weeks, and the tariffs may add on top of that a slight amount,” said De Haan. “But at the end of the day, I think and hope that the tariffs would be somewhat temporary. This should not lead to a massive strike in prices.”
