Officers acted in self-defense when they repeatedly struck a man who suffered a “serious” fracture while in a Brampton holding cell, Ontario’s police watchdog says.

Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit says they were called-in to investigate after a 33-year-old man had his orbital bone fractured in a struggle with Peel Regional Police officers on Nov. 5.

The suspect was arrested for allegedly violating conditions of his release at a residence in the vicinity of Chinguacousy Road and Steeles Avenue West in Brampton, the SIU says.
