The festival celebrates Indigenous culture, artistry, storytelling, tattooing and more. It occurs March 14-16 at the InterContinental Saint Paul Riverfront.

MINNEAPOLIS — Whether you’re interested in music, food or tattooing, the first-of-its-kind Mni Sota Akitho Festival has it all. 

The festival celebrates Indigenous culture, artistry, storytelling, tattooing and more. It occurs March 14-16 at the InterContinental Saint Paul Riverfront.  

Willard Malebear, Jr. founded the festival and operates Iktomi Tattoo Studio and Art Shelf, a nonprofit that provides free art supplies and studio space. He visited KARE 11 News at Noon to share more about the event Friday. 

Indigenous tattoo artists will showcase traditional techniques and book appointments at the event. About 45 Indigenous-owned businesses are going to be at the event with handmade goods, art and foods. 

Musicians will perform across genres, including traditional drumming, hip-hop, rock and electronic music. Artists and elders will share stories and skills in workshops …
