TULSA, Okla. — Bishop David Wilson, the first Indigenous bishop in the United Methodist Church, is serving as the keynote speaker for Boston Avenue United Methodist Church’s Lenten Lecture series.

“This is our Lenten Lecture series. We have this annually at Boston Avenue,” said Sam Powers, the senior pastor at Boston Avenue United Methodist Church. “It’s the first weekend of Lent that we have and we always bring in a distinguished speaker as a keynote speaker every year and so tonight, we brought in Bishop David Wilson out of the Great Plains Conference. He’s the first Indigenous person in the United States elected to the episcopacy for the United Methodist Church and so we’re delighted to have him join us and, of course, Bishop Wilson and I go way back together and are old friends as well, so that makes it a double blessing.”
