‘Unaccounted for’ resident found dead inside remains of building destroyed in Bowmanville fire [Video]

The fire that destroyed a section of downtown Bowmanville last week has turned tragic after the resident previously unaccounted for was found dead inside the building.

A statement from the Ontario Fire Marshal declared that crews had located a deceased person inside the building where a large fire occurred last Thursday. Investigators are still currently working to determine their identity.

Fire and emergency personnel responded to the blaze just after midnight on Thursday, March 6. Clarington Fire was on scene and officers assisted in evacuating residents from the area. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Ontario Fire Marshal’s office.

Police offered thoughts and prayers for those impacted by this tragedy and asked if anyone has new information about these incidents to contact Det. Micallef East Criminal Investigations Bureau at 1-888-579-1520 at ext. 1615.
