New event may replace cancelled Mississauga, Ontario festival [Video]

Businesses and city officials are working towards a new Canada Day event to replace Paint the Town Red.

Last week organizers of Paint the Town Red announced the event will not take place this year “due to limitations in funding, increasing operational expenses, logistical difficulties, and ongoing economic instability.” They said they expect the festival to return in 2026.

The event has been held every July 1 since 2003 in Port Credit and includes a Canada Day parade, performers, vendors, musicians and a fireworks display.

Reaction to the cancellation was met with disappointment by members of the public who took to social media to lament the loss of the event.

Now, the Port Credit Business Improvement Association (BIA) says it is weighing the possibility of holding a replacement festival this year as the Paint the Town Red committee regroups and plans for the future.
