Brampton has paused its “Made In Canada” campaign and stalled a push to only do business with Canadian companies as the back-and-forth trade war with the U.S. has tariffs on hold – at least for now.

The tariff tug of war kicked off by U.S. President Donald Trump led Mayor Patrick Brown and Brampton City Council to bring in policies ordering staff to look at a procurement contracts and urging residents to buy Canadian-made goods.

But just like the tariffs themselves, Brampton’s new “Made In Canada” policies are also on hold but could come back should Trump follow through on rolling out the 25 per cent levies on Canadian products entering the U.S. next month.

“We said at the time this would be if tariffs are on, so if tariffs are not on, this policy is not in effect,” Brown told reporters on Friday. “But we’ve done the leg work now that, if they’re back on …
