Thousands of Sandhill Cranes taking over the Platte River Valley [Video]

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) – It’s that time of year where a unique migration descends upon Central Nebraska.

From now through mid-April, more than one million Sandhill Cranes will roost along the Platte River Valley before migrating north into Canada and Siberia.

Around 400,000 cranes can be seen viewed in the North Platte-Lincoln County area.

Prairie Chickens can also be found during this time of year.

Tours are offered daily, as well as self-guided tours.

According to an economic impact study, the crane migration in Central Nebraska accounted for $14 million in 2017.

Viewing blind maps are available at the Visit North Platte office at 101 Halligan Drive. People can go to VisitNorthPlatte.com for more information or to purchase tickets.
