In a press conference on Thursday, Premier Scott Moe called on incoming Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney to make China his top trade priority, warning that retaliatory tariffs on canola could lead to plant closures and job losses in Saskatchewan. “If we find our way into an election campaign and we see canola crush facilities closing down in Saskatchewan, that’s the legacy of the Liberal government,” Moe said. He urged Carney to cancel his planned trip to Europe and instead engage with China immediately, stressing that “action needs to happen before any election call.”
