Families seek justice for missing Indigenous loved ones [Video]

PHOENIX — The families of missing and murdered Indigenous people are hoping for a renewed focus on solving those cases following the murder of a Mesa teen. With the issue making headlines, families are calling for additional resources to help bring closure to those still waiting for answers.

It’s been a painful five years for Berdie Bitsui.  

“I have two sons,” Bitsui told 12News Friday. “One missing and one murdered.”

She said her sons Drew James and Alexander Eskee grew up on the Navajo Nation.

In April 2020, 25-year-old Drew was shot and killed near 57th Ave and Thomas in Phoenix.  It’s a Silent Witness case and there still aren’t any arrests.

“It went cold,” Bitsui said. 

“I try to be strong because I have to find answers for them,” Bitsui said. “But there’s days that I cry, breakdown.”
