A woman killed when a fire swept through downtown Bowmanville March 6  has been identified as 54-year-old Kelli Faris.

A post-mortem examination found no signs of foul play, and it is believed that the injuries she sustained were a result of the fire, declared investigators with the Office of the Fire Marshal, who have finished their examination of the scene. Efforts to determine the cause, origin, and circumstances of the blaze, which destroyed a block of King Street from 59-95 King St. W., remain ongoing.

One resident had been unaccounted for since the blaze and Faris’ charred remains were not discovered until March 17, with her identity revealed Thursday morning.

The fire and the discover of Faris’ body has left the tight-knit community devasted.
