Public makes voices heard at Essex board meeting about proposed Amazon facility [Video]

It was standing room only at the Essex town hall Thursday night as the development review board heard from developers hoping to build an Amazon facility in the town. The meeting started at 6:30 p.m., but residents weren’t able to make their voices heard until nearly 10 p.m. The Amazon proposal off Saxon Hill Road wasn’t heard until after 9 p.m. When public comment came around, emotions ran high. There was applause after some people spoke. Almost everyone the board heard from Thursday raised concerns over the proposed plan. Some asked if Amazon planned to stay after shutting down a facility in Quebec. Others raised environmental concerns over the number of trucks and vans that would be on the roads. Developers said trucks would be arriving at the facility between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m., around one to two per hour. People asked about neighborhood and wildlife safety. The board …
