An arrest has been made in connection to the death of 27-year-old Kari Nicholai from Napakiak, which was initially ruled suspicious. The Alaska Bureau of Investigation’s Western Major Crimes Unit has determined that her death was a result of homicide.

28-year-old Allen Amik, also from Napakiak, was arrested on March 20, 2025, and remanded to the Yukon Kuskokwim Correctional Center. He faces charges including Murder in the Second Degree, Assault in the First Degree, Assault in the Fourth Degree, Tampering with Physical Evidence, and purchasing alcohol from a non-licensee in a local option village.

Kari Nicholai’s death was first reported on December 22, 2024, when Troopers responded to an unexpected death in Napakiak. The investigation quickly escalated as evidence at the scene suggested foul play. Her body was sent for an autopsy, and the Alaska Bureau of Investigation took over the case.
