Ontario woman charged in possible hate crime arrested in October after man attacked with machete [Video]

A woman facing assault charges after a woman wearing a hijab was attacked inside the Ajax Library Saturday was charged with assault in October after a man was attacked with a machete at the Ajax Plaza.

Durham Regional Police say officers were called to the library at 55 Harwood Ave. around noon on Saturday, where a woman reported being assaulted while studying.

According to investigators, the victim was approached by a woman who began shouting profanities and throwing objects at her. Police say the suspect attempted to remove the victim’s hijab, poured an unknown liquid on it and tried to set it on fire with a lighter.

The victim screamed for help and library security intervened. Police say the suspect fled the scene but was located and arrested several hours later.
