Weather warning now in effect in parts of southern Ontario [Video]

A freezing rain statement is now a warning in parts of southern Ontario and the GTA.

Freezing rain could bring power outages and hazardous road conditions over the weekend.

Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a warning for Durham Region and areas north of the GTA including cottage country.

Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Caledon and parts of Halton Region are under a special weather statement. Hamilton and Niagara Region are not included in the statement.

The warning for Durham and cottage country calls for possible “significant ice accretion” of five to 10 mm.

Toronto, Mississauga and Brampton could see ice accretion of three to five mm.

“Power outages are likely,” the warning states.

Precipitation is forecast to begin as rain late this afternoon before transitioning to freezing rain this evening.

The freezing rain may change to rain on Saturday as temperatures fluctuate around the freezing mark. Areas that change to rain will see less ice accretion. The …
