WAIKIKI, Hawaii (Island News) — Many across the country and North America are bracing for ‘Liberation Day’ tariffs to impact their pocket book.

Could Hawaii feel a change by travelers opting out of vacation plans? 

In countries like Canada directly impacted by the tariffs, trips to the U.S. are already down this year. 

With worries that Hawaii could feel a decrease in tourism due to tariffs affecting travelers, changes have not been seen by those working in hospitality in Waikiki.

”If we wouldn’t have booked so early we wouldn’t be here,” said Canadian visitor Maurice Lachance. “A lot of our friends have already cancelled their holidays because of that. They are going to Mexico or Europe instead of the U.S.”

But according to the Hawaii Tourism Authority spring outlook, the Canada team said they are optimistic about travelers choosing the Aloha State this summer.

Americans on the other hand are left wondering.
