Cookie recall issued for three states as plastic found inside products [Video]

Thousands of cases of frozen and ready-to-eat cookies are being recalled because of possible contamination with plastic, according to a notice published by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The voluntary recall, initiated by CraftMark Bakery LLC of Indianapolis, began on March 27. It affects multiple cookie products distributed in California, Illinois, Maryland and Canada.

Why It Matters

The recalled products are being classified as Class II recalls by the FDA, which means that the use of or exposure to the product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences. While not life-threatening, ingesting foreign materials like plastic can result in injury, especially for children or older adults.

Numerous recalls have been initiated this year because of potentially damaged products, foodborne illness, undeclared food allergens or the potential of bacteria.
