MID-MICHIGAN (WJRT) – Mount Pleasant’s Mountain Town Brewing is navigating uncertainty amid President Trump’s new tariffs on steel, aluminum and more.

“We know a lot of our grain comes from Canada and we know most of our aluminum cans come from Canada,” said Jim Holton, owner of Mountain Town Brewing on Wednesday.

Holton also owns Mountain Town Station restaurant, Summit Smokehouse, and the Green Spot Pub in Mount Pleasant, along with Alma Brewing Company in Gratiot County.

He said they stocked up on supplies before the tariffs were announced but are preparing for potential challenges.

“If the tariffs continue more than about three or four months, we probably will have to cease the canning operations,” Holton said.

Mountain Town Brewing started in 2008 as the 96th microbrewery in Michigan. Now, there are around 400, reflecting the uncertainty in the craft beer industry.
