Residents are being advised to prepare for strong winds beginning this evening and continuing into early Tuesday morning.

According to weather officials, wind gusts could reach up to 80 km/h as a cold front moves through the area. The strong winds may break tree branches, throw loose objects, and cause power outages.

The advisory is in effect for Durham Region, York Region, and Newmarket. Utility companies are on standby, as any outages caused by the winds may take longer to repair due to the storm conditions.

Residents are urged to secure outdoor items and use caution if travelling. Staying indoors is recommended until the winds subside.
