SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – An event on Tuesday at the Sioux Falls Downtown Public Library is highlighting the issue of missing and murdered Indigenous people and how forming a group in the Sioux Falls area could help make a difference.

If you’re looking to catch up with Lily Mendoza of the Red Ribbon Skirt Society, you’d typically find her in the Rapid City area.

This week, she’s been on the eastern side of the state to speak about missing and murdered Indigenous women, relatives, a people.

She wants all South Dakotans to know that the issue is real and exists in South Dakota.

As a Bush Fellow and member of the Attorney General’s MMIP Advisory Council, she’s dedicated to creating an understanding of targeted individuals.

“Given a history overview of that, you know, where it started. Where it moved down to like you know from Canada,” Mendoza said.

Mendoza was asked if there was a common thread.
