MANCHESTER, Iowa (KCRG) – The Delaware County Emergency Management Agency is adding a certified crisis response canine to its team.

Mabel, a one-year-old, long-haired yellow Labrador, has completed her training, which includes assessments in obedience, temperament and situational awareness.

Mabel and her certified handler, Mandy Bieber, will offer comfort to emergency personnel, victims and community members who have been impacted by traumatic events.

Bieber said crisis canines help reduce anxiety by providing a steady, comforting presence during natural disasters and the recovery efforts that follow.
