Revamped celebration saves Canada Day in Ontario city [Video]

It’s official. Canada Day celebrations are back on in Port Credit.

Just weeks after it was announced that July 1 festivities would be cancelled due to a lack of funds and other logistical issues, the Mississauga lakefront community has regrouped, backed by new financial support and a commitment by local groups to help out.

“I’m very pleased that this is happening,” said Mississauga Ward 1 Councillor Stephen Dasko who represents the area. “Especially now with Canadians wanting to show their pride. We couldn’t let Canada Day disappear in Port Credit.”

Rebranded as #INThePort, the celebration will see a section of Lakeshore Road closed off from noon to 11 p.m. for a street festival that will feature live music, musical performers, vendors, and a kid zone. A giant Ferris wheel is also promised as a main attraction.
