Dozens of charges have been laid against 15 people from southern Ontario and Quebec, including one man from Mississauga, after police busted a $3.5-million magic mushrooms production and sales network allegedly operating in the Greater Toronto Area and beyond.
Among the 15 suspects facing charges are a Toronto man and London man who are wanted by York Regional Police on arrest warrants and believed to be overseas.
Prompted by complaints from the community, police said they began their investigation in March 2024 into the FunGuyz Magic Mushrooms store in the area of Yonge Street and Centre Street in Thornhill.
As the probe unfolded, investigators began to target FunGuyz stores across Ontario, police said in a news release on Thursday.
The investigation, dubbed Project Magic, culminated in 29 search warrants being executed that led to 15 arrests and 78 total charges, police said.
