A Port Perry golf course will have to rebuild after a devastating fire “fully engulfed” and destroyed the clubhouse early Friday morning before spreading to a neighbouring field.
Scugog Fire responded just after 1 a.m. to a blaze at Summerlea Golf Course on Russell Road and arrived to find the golf course clubhouse already fully involved. A secondary fire had also started on a four-acre section of a neighbouring field.
Firefighters initiated defensive operations and asked for help from fire services in Uxbridge, Brock and Oshawa.
Fire crews were able to get the fire under control by about 9 a.m. and are remaining on scene to check for hot spots.
No injuries have been reported. The Ontario Fire Marshall’s Office has been notified and will be investigating.
