Canadian-American musician Neil Young joined thousands of protesters in Ventura County, California, on Saturday, carrying a hand-drawn sign that read “Hands Off Canada” in a pointed rebuke of President Donald Trump‘s recent remarks about the U.S. annexing its northern neighbor.

Why It Matters

The protest, part of a nationwide series of rallies, drew more than 2,500 people to the Ventura County Government Center, according to the Ventura County Star, with an additional 1,300 to 1,500 gathering in the nearby town of Thousand Oaks.

Demonstrators voiced opposition to Trump’s immigration policies, economic measures, and government cuts.

More than 80 demonstrations were planned across several states for Saturday as part of the broader “50501” movement—named for its goal of organizing 50 protests in 50 states under one movement.
