Passengers save cash in Ontario under plan that links transit in Mississauga, Brampton and beyond [Video]

Tens of millions of trips have been taken by bus riders in Mississauga, Brampton and across the Greater Toronto Area during the first year of a new multi-region public transit initiative aimed at making transit more affordable and efficient, provincial leaders say.

More than 38 million transfers have been made between local transit systems since the February 2024 launch of the Ontario government’s One Fare plan, officials with Metrolinx said on Monday.

Metrolinx, the provincial agency in charge of GO Transit and other transit initiatives and projects, added those transfers mean transit passengers have saved more than $123 million during the first 12 months of One Fare.

Under One Fare, transit users pay only once as they can transfer for free between MiWay (Mississauga), Brampton Transit, Durham Region Transit, York Region Transit, GO Transit and TTC buses among others.
