Softening the blow of U.S. tariffs on Brampton’s economy could lead to the creation of a new city-run corporation aimed at expanding trade with international players.

Back in February, Brampton City Council passed a resolution asking staff to report back with a business case for the establishment of a new Municipal Services Corporation (MSC) “to address the economic impacts stemming from potential U.S. tariffs on Canadian goods.”

The proposed International Markets Corporation would help the city support local businesses and industries by exploring new global market opportunities in the midst of economic uncertainty caused by U.S. President Donald Trump’s trade war.
