Two different weather alerts are in effect in southern Ontario.

There is a “significant thunderstorm outlook” for Monday across southern Ontario, Environment and Climate Change Canada said in a post on X.

“Thunderstorms developing this afternoon for the Hamilton and Niagara Peninsula areas are capable of producing wind gusts of 90 km/h and small hail,” the post read.

The thunderstorms will continue into the evening for eastern Ontario, the weather forecaster said.

In a separate post, Environment Canada said a squall watch had been issued for Lake Erie. Squalls with wind gusts up to 40 knots may develop this afternoon and early this evening in the southwest part of the province, along Lake Erie.

There is also a special weather statement for significant rainfall, up to 25 mm, in the northern parts of the province including Blind River, Lake Superior Park, Killarney and Sault Ste. Marie. The frozen ground has a reduced ability to absorb this rainfall.
