Stunt driving in northern Ontario town leads to 12 charges for Mississauga man [Video]

A Mississauga man faces a dozen charges including stunt driving after a late-night traffic stop Monday night in a small northern Ontario town.

East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police said a speeding car was stopped on Highway 17 in Blind River, some 160 kilometres west of Sudbury, at around 11 p.m. The officer was conducting general patrol when they spotted the speeding vehicle.

During the traffic stop, police learned the driver had a warrant out for their arrest, was a prohibited driver and had numerous licence suspensions, police said in a news release on Tuesday. In addition, cannabis was readily available inside the vehicle.

The car was towed and impounded and the driver placed under arrest.

A 36-year-old Mississauga man is charged with:

  • drive motor vehicle — perform stunt, excessive speed
  • operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code (two counts)
  • driving while under suspension (two counts)
  • driving under licence of other jurisdiction while suspended in Ontario
  • operate a motor vehicle without insurance
  • operate unsafe vehicle
  • fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle
