COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho – Governor Brad Little (R-Idaho) signed his latest executive order, Make Forests Healthy Again Act, to promote an efficient partnership the federal government to thin federal forest land and boost the local logging industry.

President Donald Trump signed an executive order of his own in March. The pair both promote thinning federal lands to better control wildfire season; however, the timber produced is of significant interest to both.

President Trump’s order explains this timber makes the United States less depending on imported timber from neighboring countries, including Canada.

“We’re not talking about the wilderness area. We’re not talking about the parks. We’re talking about ground that traditionally was timber managed ground, but just ever since spotted owl, more or less, they’ve just quit managing it,” Gov. Little said. “We’ve got a map of 6 million acres of federal forest land that has been designated as severely at risk.”
