Cereal drive in Ontario town aims for world record and to ‘knock down’ child hunger [Video]

Setting a world record and getting a mention in the famous Guinness book is pretty cool but making sure children don’t go hungry is the far bigger reward at the Knock Down Hunger event happening in Bowmanville on Canada Day.

The Bowmanville Cereal Drive is seeking donations for the attempt to set up and knock down 12,953 cereal boxes – dominos style – to set a new Guinness world record while feeding a few hungry kids, with the boxes of cereal given to Feed the Need Durham after the event for distribution to food banks and shelters across the region.

“Sadly, there are families that can’t afford to pay the rent & buy groceries too,” said Nancy Leblanc of the Seeds of Hope Project, the lead organizer of the ‘Knockdown’ event. “During the school year, there are programs to provide food for children who need it.
