Concerned that Mississauga is losing many community groups and sports events to Brampton and Oakville because it’s less expensive to rent facilities in those neighbouring municipalities, the mayor of Canada’s seventh-largest city wants to see if the apparent trend can be reversed.

A notice of motion from Mayor Carolyn Parrish to be discussed at city council on Wednesday seeks to have “financial statements, rental bookings and net profits and losses” for both the Living Arts Centre and Paramount Fine Foods Centre, Mississauga’s two main venues, prepared for council.

In addition, the motion calls for senior City of Mississauga staff to carry out a “benchmarking of fees” for the two major Mississauga venues, “comparing all surrounding GTA municipalities with comparable facilities.”
