Teen hurt by falling tree, tens of thousands without power after violent Quebec storm [Video]

A 15-year-old Montrealer was badly hurt by a falling tree in one of a series of violent storms across the province on Tuesday evening that left more than 144,000 Hydro-Québec clients without power.

As of 10 a.m., the utility was still working to restore power to almost 76,000 clients after wind gusts of more than 100 kilometres per hour knocked out trees and equipment.

Most power outages were in the Laurentians north of Montreal, and the Montérégie and Outaouais regions.

Environment Canada had warned on Tuesday of thunderstorms moving eastward across Quebec, and of large hail, heavy rain and strong wind gusts.

In Montreal, a teenager was seriously injured after becoming stuck under a tree that fell in the Ahuntsic-Cartierville borough, and a storm knocked out power to Maisonneuve-Rosemont hospital for part of the evening.
