Plane makes emergency landing in Lake Ontario [Video]

The pilot of a small plane was rescued this afternoon after his aircraft landed in Lake Ontario.

Reports say the plane landed off the shores of Toronto near the Leslie Street Spit in the city’s east end.

Witnesses said they heard a loud noise and looked out into the lake where they saw the plane.

Toronto Police Marine Unit was quick on the scene and were able to remove the pilot from the plane and take him aboard. It appead there were no other passengers. The injuries to the pilot are not considered life threatening.

Police said the plane is privately operated and it is not yet known why it went down in the water.

Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport  said the incident has not affected other flights out of the island airport.

Transportation Safety Board of Canada is investigating.
