Washington State Patrol says there are 112 missing Native American persons in the state as of April 15, and half of those cases originate in Eastern Washington.

AIRWAY HEIGHTS, Wash. — On Monday, Northern Quest Resort and Casino held a day of awareness and remembrance for Missing and Murdered Indigenous People (MMIP). 

“Native Americans make up less than 2% of the population in the United States, and yet our missing and murdered rate is ten times that of all other nationalities, and it’s just heartbreaking,” said Yolanda Brown, a cultural specialist with the Kalispel Tribe. 

May is designated as MMIP Awareness Month, and May 5 is specifically designated for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women. 

The casino’s Heritage Hallway has red dresses on display that symbolize missing and murdered Indigenous women, who make up half of all missing and murdered indigenous people in the state of Washington.
