Seven people from across the Greater Toronto Area face charges and two others are being sought after a police investigation alleged 10 vehicles worth nearly $375,000 were fraudulently purchased through a Mississauga dealership.

Fraud investigators with Peel Regional Police say the vehicles, which included a number of SUVs, were about to be shipped out of the country when police recovered them in Ontario.

Police allege that between Jan. 30 and Feb. 27, a man who worked at a car dealership in Mississauga “utilized his position as a sales associate to facilitate the fraudulent transactions of 10 vehicles with an approximate value of $373,738.”

Investigators believe the employee coordinated the fraudulent transactions, “enabling the other involved parties to obtain a variety of cars and SUVs.”

An initial arrest in the case was made on April 29, followed by six additional arrests, police said.
