Man charged in shooting death of Chesterfield teen [Video]

RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) -Police have arrested a Halifax man in connection with the shooting death of a Chesterfield 17-year-old last month.

On April 17, just after 10 p.m., officers were called to the park along Brander Street at Ancarrow’s Landing for the report of a person down. Officers arrived and found a 17-year-old girl from North Chesterfield down on the ground, shot and unresponsive.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives determined the shooting was connected to a scene on West Broad Street the day before.

On Wednesday, April 16, just after 6:30 a.m., officers were called to a parking deck in the 2000 block of West Broad Street for the report of a suspicious situation. Officers arrived and collected evidence that they connected to the homicide investigation.

Austin Akers-Reid, 19, of Halifax, has been in police custody since April on robbery and firearm charges. He has now been charged with murder and concealment of a dead body.
