Two children from Whitby were seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash in Oshawa Wednesday night.

Emergency crews rushed to the T-bone collision on Taunton Road near Stevenson Road North in Oshawa at approximately 9:10 p.m. on Wednesday, Durham Regional Police said.

A 2000 Ford Mustang and 2016 Hyundai Elantra crashed and the driver of the Mustang exited his vehicle and fled the scene on foot, police said.

Paramedics and Whitby Fire crews aided four people in the Hyundai Elantra and three people in the Mustang.

The 41-year-old male driver of the Hyundai was extricated and transported to local hospital with minor injuries. A 33-year-old female passenger was trapped and after a lengthy extrication was freed and taken to hospital with serious injuries, police said.

Police said two children aged 10 and five sustained extensive injuries and were transported to a Toronto hospital.
