A small herd of cows is causing big delays for travellers in both directions on an Ontario highway north of Toronto, the OPP says.
The OPP Highway Safety Division says there are “heavy delays” on Highway 400 between Highway 9 and Aurora Road near Aurora, just south of Newmarket.
A video shared by police showed one of the animals and police said there were around six cows “running up and down the highway” on Friday afternoon.
Police say the cows escaped an enclosure and OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said officers are working with the owners to get the cows into trailers.
He said animals are “not too cooperative.”
Drivers headed to cottage country can expect heavy delays in both directions on Highway 400, Schmidt said.
