Known as the Strawberry Moon, June’s full moon doesn’t get its name from its colour or appearance. Despite the imagery it might suggest, it won’t look red or pink. At most, it may carry a warm glow near the horizon as light filters through the atmosphere.

Compared to May’s Flower Moon, which represents the peak of spring bloom, the Strawberry Moon signals the shift toward early summer and the first fruits of the season.

According to the Old Farmers’ Almanac, the name comes from Indigenous groups, including the Algonquian, Ojibwe, Dakota and Lakota peoples, who used it to mark the brief but important season for harvesting wild strawberries.
