It has been a long process but progress is being made on extending GO train service into Bowmanville, with installation work on a new watermain under the Albert Street bridge in Oshawa now underway.
Metrolinx is installing the new watermain under the existing railway tracks, using micro-tunnelling – a trenchless method that uses a guided boring system to install the pipes underground.
Open-cut trenching will follow to tie the new watermain into the existing system at Fisher Street and Albany Street.
The watermain is being installed to replace the section of pipe crossing the corridor at Simcoe Street that is being removed as part of early preparatory work on the GO train project.
Additional closure on Fisher Street is required to prepare the staging area for cranes and other equipment and Fisher Street will not be accessible through the bridge.
