How COVID vaccine changes could impact southern Arizona [Video]

TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – Changes are on the way for the COVID-19 vaccines.

The FDA is adjusting the standard of evidence needed to approve shots for the general public.

The change would make it similar to the vaccine recommendations used in Canada, the U.K., and Australia.

The agency said COVID boosters are expected to be available this fall for the elderly population and those with certain health issues.

But the FDA said it needs to see enough positive data from placebo-based trials before recommending boosters for people in other groups.

There are still some unknowns.

While the FDA made this decision, the department is waiting to get direction from the CDC on what this fall will look like.

Regardless, it’s an area of concern for them.

Crystal Rambaud, the Vaccine Preventable Disease Program manager for the Pima County Health Department, said they found a universal approach to be most effective in preventing the disease.
