The OPP and the family of Sgt. Eric Mueller have issued a joint statement following the verdict in the trial connected to a 2023 shooting that killed Mueller and seriously injured two other officers.
Mueller was killed in the line of duty on May 11, 2023, after he and two other officers responded to a reported disturbance at a home in Bourget, a village about 50 kilometres east of Ottawa. All three officers were shot upon arrival, police said at the time.
Provincial Constables Marc Lauzon and François Gamache-Asselin were both seriously injured in the incident. One person was arrested at the scene.
In a statement released Saturday, OPP Commissioner Thomas Carrique, OPP Association President John Cerasuolo and members of the Mueller family reflected on the impact of the trial, which included the public release of body-worn camera footage and emotional courtroom testimony.
