Two men in a stolen car who smashed into two parked vehicles during a brazen midday getaway from police are the subject of a manhunt by Durham Regional Police.
Police responded to a stolen vehicle call at 1 p.m. after the owner of the vehicle spotted it in the parking lot at the Pickering City Centre shopping mall and called for help.
Officers arrived and approached the vehicle but the vehicle fled the scene, driving over a sidewalk and exiting the parking lot at a “high rate of speed.”
Due to public safety concerns, police said, no pursuit was initiated. While fleeing, the stolen car struck two parked vehicles.
A short time later, police received reports that the same vehicle mounted a curb on Fieldlight Boulevard and was disabled. Two suspects fled the scene on foot prior to police arrival.
