People from Ontario are moving to this Canadian city for cheaper housing [Video]

Ontario housing prices, particularly in the GTA, have some people looking elsewhere for affordable options.

Many people have chosen Calgary and Edmonton as lower-cost alternatives. And last year 14,230 Ontario residents moved to Alberta, according to a report from real estate brokerage Zoocasa.

“Canadians are leaving behind steep housing costs in favour of affordability, opportunity, and a lifestyle that doesn’t come with a sky-high price tag,” Zoocasa said.

While the bigger centres attract many new residents, Zoocasa suggests Red Deer is rising in popularity.

Located between Calgary and Edmonton, Red Deer is a 90-minute drive from either city.

“We’re seeing more buyers relocating from across the country, especially from B.C. and Ontario,” said Red Deer eXp Realty agent Neil Davis. “With Red Deer emerging as the next-largest centre after Calgary and Edmonton, it’s quickly gaining attention as a smart alternative.”
