Crash following home invasions under investigation by police watchdog in Ontario [Video]

Ontario’s Special Investigations unit has been called in to investigate a crash where two people were injured following a pair of home invasions in Halton.

The break-ins happened in the early morning hour on Tuesday in Oakville and Milton, the SIU says.

Around 4:20 a.m., officers with the Halton Regional Police Service located a suspect vehicle in the area of Appleby Line and Number 2 Side Road in Burlington.

Police followed the vehicle northbound and deployed a tire deflation device, commonly known as a spike strip.

The driver of the vehicle then crashed into a utility pole, police said.

Five male occupants of the vehicle were arrested and taken to hospital, two of which suffered “serious injuries.”

The SIU says a 24-year-old man and a 16-year-old teenager were seriously injured in the crash, which is now under investigation.
