A meat product has been recalled in Canada after a potentially dangerous chemical compound was detected, officials say.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency said that chloramphenicol was found in the product.

“Chloramphenicol is an antibiotic banned in Canada and many other countries for use in food-producing animals due to health risks,” a spokesperson for the agency told INsauga.com.

“It can cause serious side effects such as bone marrow suppression, including aplastic anemia, a rare but serious condition. There are also concerns about its potential to cause cancer, genetic damage, and antimicrobial resistance.”

The recalled product is Glenwood brand Teriyaki Beef Jerky Slab, with the size of 12 x 45 g, UPC number 0 94321 32051 0, code D31724 and best before date of 11/12/25.

It was distributed in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Ontario.
