Canada wildfire smoke to push into Georgia skies over the weekend [Video]

Air quality expected to be “moderate” Saturday afternoon.

ATLANTA — Wildfire smoke from Canada is expected to push into Georgia this weekend. The same northwest flow that is pushing the rain out and bringing us drier air will also transport some of this smoke all the way from Canada into Georgia.  

Massive wildfires in Manitoba are generating a lot of smoke. That smoke is getting caught up into the upper level winds.  That wind manages to transport that smoke way down to the south. 

As of Friday night, the smoke was still in Canada and covering many of our northern states. The leading edge of that smoke had already pushed through St. Louis, Missouri and was beginning to move into western Tennessee.

The smoke will eventually push into Georgia during the day on Saturday. It won’t be thick smoke, but it will make the sky appear a little hazy at times. So, while we are excited about the sun returning this weekend, it will have to filter …
