An Alberta resident is dead after a crash that led to the partial closure of a highway in Ontario on Tuesday, police say.

Ontario Provincial Police said officers responded to a single-vehicle crash at around 12 p.m. on Highway 400 in McDougall Township, which is in the Parry Sound area.

One person, who has since been identified as a 65-year-old resident of Edmonton, died at the scene.

OPP said the northbound lanes of Highway 400 were closed from Avro Arrow Road to Highway 559 as a result of the incident.

The closure lasted several hours.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
