ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – Temperatures are running well above seasonal norms for much of mainland Alaska. A series of storm surging up from the Pacific ocean is transporting warm, moist air right into the state. Coastal areas from southeast to southcentral have seen the most impact with rain. But a pair of storm coming Sunday through Tuesday will shift some of that warming and winter mix of rain and snow to western locations of the state.

A winter weather advisory will go into effect Sunday night for the lower Innoko and Yukon River Valleys and the middle Yukon Valley. Snow could go to 3 inches, and a glaze of ice is also possible as temperatures rise.

Interior Alaska will see a freeze-thaw cycle with daytime temperatures above freezing. Melting snow and ice during the days will re-freeze at night as temperatures drop, making roadways very slick.
